Details

The English Patient is set in war-torn Italy in October 1944. Hana, a French-Canadian nurse, works in a mobile medical unit and feels like everything she loves in life dies on her. Due to the dangers and difficulties of travel, Hana volunteers to stay behind at a church to care for a dying patient who is badly burned and disfigured. The patient suffers from semi-amnesia and can only recall that he is English and married.

Hana agrees to catch up with her unit after the patient's death but ends up forming a bond with him. As they spend solitary days together, their isolation is disrupted by the arrival of another Canadian, David Caravaggio, who has a personal connection to the patient. Caravaggio reveals that the patient is actually a Hungarian count named László Almásy.

Through flashbacks, the movie explores Almásy's passionate love affair with Katherine Clifton, a married woman. Their affair takes place against the backdrop of World War II and the African desert. As Hana, Almásy, and Caravaggio come to terms with their own personal tragedies and relationships, their lives intertwine in unexpected ways.

The English Patient is an epic story of love, loss, and redemption set during a tumultuous time in history. It delves into the complexities of human relationships and the impact of war on individuals.
