Details
Ingrid Goes West is a dark comedy film that follows the story of an unhinged social media stalker named Ingrid, who becomes obsessed with an Instagram celebrity named Taylor. Ingrid decides to move to Los Angeles in an attempt to befriend Taylor and emulate her seemingly perfect life.
As Ingrid immerses herself in Taylor's world, the lines between reality and fiction become blurred. She goes to extreme lengths to fit in and be accepted by Taylor, even manipulating her way into Taylor's inner circle. Ingrid's relentless pursuit of validation through social media leads her down a dangerous path of deception and self-destruction.
The film offers a biting critique of our obsession with social media and the curated personas we create online. It explores themes of loneliness, addiction, and the desperate need for connection in a digital age. Ingrid Goes West also tackles the dark side of social media, highlighting the psychological toll it can take on individuals who measure their self-worth based on their online popularity.
With compelling performances from Aubrey Plaza as Ingrid and Elizabeth Olsen as Taylor, Ingrid Goes West is a thought-provoking film that delves into the disturbing consequences of our digital obsession. It serves as a cautionary tale, reminding viewers of the importance of authenticity and genuine human connection in an increasingly virtual world.
