The story follows Danny Winters, a young man who escapes his oppressive hometown and journeys to New York City, leaving behind his sister. At the Stonewall Inn, Danny meets Trevor, a charismatic and compassionate young man, and catches the attention of Ed Murphy, the manager of the bar.
