Excision (2012) mesmerizes viewers with its haunting portrayal of a disturbed high-school student's quest for acceptance and control. The film centers around Pauline, a troubled teenager whose delusions and fascination with medical procedures lead her down a dark and twisted path.
Yearning for the affection and approval of her controlling mother, Pauline dreams of becoming a surgeon. However, her morbid fascination with blood and death sets her apart from her peers, who see her as an outcast. Determined to prove her worth, she embarks on a dangerous mission to carry out her own unorthodox surgeries.
As her obsession intensifies, Pauline's actions become increasingly extreme and dangerous. With an unflinching portrayal of her disturbed mental state, Excision delves deep into Pauline's psyche, blurring the lines between fantasy and reality.
In this psychological horror film, director Richard Bates Jr. masterfully captures the terrifying and uncomfortable moments that push the boundaries of acceptance. The exceptional performances of AnnaLynne McCord as Pauline and Traci Lords as her mother deliver an emotional impact that lingers long after the film's gripping climax.
Excision offers a thought-provoking exploration of the lengths people will go to seek approval, even at the expense of their own sanity. Captivating and chilling at every turn, this unique and disturbing film is not for the faint of heart.
