Details
Losing Isaiah is a thought-provoking drama that tells the story of an African-American baby who is abandoned by his crack-addicted mother, only to be adopted by a white social worker named Margaret Lewin and her husband. The film explores complex themes of race, addiction, and the meaning of family.
Years later, Isaiah's birth mother, Khaila Richards, discovers that her son is alive and well, contrary to what she believed before. Determined to reclaim her child, Khaila embarks on a legal battle, which forces Margaret to confront her own deep-seated biases and prejudices. As the custody battle unfolds, both women become unwilling participants in a power struggle that raises questions about love, identity, and the best interests of a child.
Directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal, Losing Isaiah stars Halle Berry as Khaila Richards, Jessica Lange as Margaret Lewin, and Samuel L. Jackson as Khaila's lawyer, Kadar Lewis. With remarkable performances and an emotionally charged narrative, the film delves into the complexities of motherhood and the profound impact of addiction on families.
With its powerful exploration of race, identity, and the legal system, Losing Isaiah is a deeply moving film that challenges viewers to consider the true meaning of family and the lengths one will go to protect their child.
