The story follows a criminal named Randle McMurphy, who fakes insanity to escape prison time and ends up admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Once inside, he discovers the oppressive regime led by Nurse Ratched, whose strict and domineering methods oppress and demoralize the patients.
McMurphy refuses to conform to the rules and rallies the frightened patients, encouraging them to stand up for themselves and challenge the authority of Nurse Ratched. Through his rebellious spirit, McMurphy becomes a symbol of hope and freedom for the patients, showing them that they don't have to live under the control and manipulation of their caretakers.
