In the Danish West Indies in 1848, the film Viften follows the story of Anna and Petrine, two close friends who are both women of color. However, their lives take a dramatic turn when rumors of a rebellion start to circulate.

Anna, who is free, owns Petrine, who is enslaved and serves as her housekeeper. Although they have a seemingly harmonious relationship, the impending rebellion threatens to disrupt their lives and challenge the social order they have come to know.
